The gait assessment is provided as part of the "shoe purchase service". We just ask that customers have the intention of wanting to make a purchase, when asking for the gait assessment. Booking in for a gait assessment on a Saturday is encouraged, as it can be busy on this day, please contact the shop on 07592367099 to make an appointment.

What is a Gait Assessment?

A gait assessment is a professional analysis of the way you walk and run. Using expert observation and often video technology, it evaluates your foot strike, stride, biomechanics, and overall movement patterns to identify how your body moves during exercise.

Why is it important for running?

Understanding your running gait helps ensure you are wearing the right running shoes for your individual biomechanics. A gait assessment can improve comfort, enhance running efficiency, and help reduce the risk of common running-related injuries by providing footwear recommendations tailored to your needs. Whether you're a beginner training for your first 5K or an experienced marathon runner, a gait assessment can help you run more comfortably and confidently.

How long does it take?

A typical Gait Assessment takes around 15-30 minutes, however only a small amount of time is required to run on the tradmill (around 1-2 minutes). During the session, we’ll discuss your running experience, current footwear, any injuries or discomfort you may have experianced and analyse your running technique. Our team will them recommend suitable footwear based on your individual biomechanics.

Three Step Process

Step 1: The Barefoot Treadmill run

This is carried out barefoot on the treadmill. The reason we do this with no shoes or socks on is that the camera can clearly pick up the degree of pronation taking place during running. It will also show any biomechanical issues, as you will be running without the influence of any cushioning or support (the analysis only requires approximately 1 minute of running barefoot).

Step 2: The Analysis

Using a digital camera, we record the runner from both behind and from the side. The footage is then transferred onto our analysis software where we will then use a series of tools and angles to calculate how much pronation is taking place in relation to the hips, posture and technique.

Step 3: Finding the right shoe

After completing the analysis, we will then pick out a selection of shoes based upon the findings from the footage and to meet with your requires goals and objectives. These shoes can then be tested on the treadmill in store to ensure they meet your requirements.
